Training therapists to help journalists in distress
Journalists serve society on the frontlines, and often take on the trauma of the stories they cover. Too often this trauma goes unnoticed and untreated. We are building a community to change that.
Since 2021 the Journalist Trauma Support Network (JTSN) has been training experienced trauma therapists to work with journalists in need. Read about the outstanding results in our May 2025 WHITE PAPER and see below how you can get involved!
For therapists we offer:
Training
Get the specific tools you need to support journalists. We offer a free core training webinar and ongoing education and consultation resources for compassionate professionals.
Referrals
Once you’ve completed our core training, we’ll refer clients for time-limited treatment. Therapists-in-training are assured reasonable compensation for therapy hours.
Community
Our therapists gather in peer learning groups and networking events to share practice strategies and evolve this important emerging field.
For journalists we offer:
Therapy Resources
JTSN trains therapists to work with journalists impacted by occupational stress and trauma. Journalists can contact JTSN-trained therapists and find online support resources here.
Our Mission
We are building a national community of qualified U.S. based therapists trained to care for trauma-impacted journalists. We provide therapists with cultural competence and data security training, peer support, and referral pathways.
JTSN is a project of the Global Center for Journalism and Trauma.
